Alberto Buffolano was born in Caserta, a small town in the South of Italy, very close to the beautiful and better known Neaples.
He studied Bass Guitar; Popular and Jazz Music; Arrangement; Composition and Orchestration with some of the most important Italian musicians and maestros like Dino D’Autorio, Patrick Djivas, Riccardo Fioravanti, Marco Micheli, Alberto Mandarini, Paolo Damiani, Paolo Silvestri and many others.
He graduated in Jazz Composition from the Santa Cecilia conservatory in Rome with top marks and honors where he also worked as guest tutor teaching Jazz Composition and Arrangement.
He now lives in Rome, working as a teacher, arranger, composer, and copyist.
In Rome he’s one of the “Lone Arrangers”, i.e. the arrangers/conductors team of the Orchestra Operaia, one of the most prolific Italian jazz big band founded by Maestro Massimo Nunzi.
Alberto's compositions range from orchestral music to solo instruments, and are composed in every style: from mainstream pop to modern Jazz, from symphonic minimal music to contemporary aleatoric music.
His compositions include movies works, such as the soundtrack of “Grotto” an important kids movie awarded as best movie at the Giffoni Film Festival, the short film “Stella Amore” and a lot of minor works.
His arrangements has been performed by Orchestra Operaia, Perugia Big Band, Santa Cecilia Big Band and many more, at some of the most important Italian Music Theatres, such as Auditorium Parco della Musica, Piazza Venezia (Rome), Casa del Jazz ecc.
He’s been hired as copyist by some of the most important European music editors and productions like RAI Movie, 01 production, Oh!Pen, Cattleya and more.
He’s also written some instrument reviews for the Italian magazine “Guitar Club”.
He’s a certified software trainer (Logic Pro and Avid Sibelius), and teach music technology, orchestration and arrangement, both private lessons in his studio in Rome, and for public institutions.
